El Salvador - Experimental Hybrid Selection Transparency Report

This micro lot represents one of the most forward-looking projects underway at Finca Las Brisas in El Salvador's Apaneca-Ilamatepec region. Produced by third-generation coffee grower Carlos Pola, the lot features an Experimental Hybrid Selection—part of an ongoing effort to evaluate new coffee genetics capable of delivering exceptional cup quality, disease resistance, and climate resilience.

The Experimental Hybrid Selection draws from some of the most influential coffee genetics in the world, incorporating lineage connected to the Sarchimor family, which combines Villa Sarchi (a natural Bourbon mutation from Costa Rica) with Timor Hybrid, a naturally occurring Arabica-Robusta cross known for its resistance to coffee leaf rust. Through careful selection and field evaluation, these experimental plants seek to retain the sweetness, complexity, and elegance prized in specialty coffee while offering improved adaptability in changing growing conditions.

Grown between 1,250 and 1,550 meters above sea level in rich volcanic soils, the coffee benefits from cool mountain temperatures that slow cherry maturation and promote concentrated sugar development. The lot is harvested selectively at peak ripeness and processed with meticulous attention to detail to preserve clarity, sweetness, and varietal character.

Pola's broader farming program is rooted in regenerative agriculture, water-conscious processing, and transparent quality improvement. More than twenty experimental cultivars and hybrids are planted throughout Finca Las Brisas, transforming the farm into both a producing estate and a living research platform. This Experimental Hybrid Selection exemplifies that philosophy—exploring how modern coffee genetics can deliver outstanding cup quality while helping producers navigate the realities of climate change and disease pressure.

The resulting cup showcases the promise of these emerging selections: vibrant fruit character, structured sweetness, floral aromatics, and remarkable balance. It is both a reflection of El Salvador's coffee heritage and a glimpse into the future of specialty coffee cultivation.
