Bear Lake Coffee Co. Achieves B Corp Certification

I am excited to share that Bear Lake Coffee Co. became a Certified B Corporation in February 2024. Just 20 months ago, we started our journey as a start-up with a vision, holding the status of a Pending B Corp.

Special thanks must go to I mpact Growth Partners, our B Corp consultants, who helped us align our operations, policies, and procedures, and partnered with us from the start to the very end of this process. Thanks also goes to Rockridge for amending our legal documents to state that the purpose of our company is to make a material positive impact on humanity and the environment, taken as a whole, from the business and operations of the company.

What is a Certified B Corp?

A Certified B Corp is a global movement focused on creating an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system that leverages business as a force for good. This means we adopt a long-term approach to managing our triple bottom line of people, planet, and profits—guiding our business towards sustainable success by balancing social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and economic viability. It's not an endpoint but a new beginning and commitment to continually improve, learn, grow, and measure our impact daily and annually. Currently, there are over 8,200 Certified B Corporations across more than 96 countries and 162 industries. As of 2023, with approximately 334 million businesses in the world, that means that 1 out of every 40,000 companies globally meets the B Corp certification standard. It's still very early for this movement!

To certify as a B Corp, a business has to be awarded at least 80 points out of a possible 250+ under what we call the B Impact Assessment or ‘BIA’—a free tool that thousands of businesses have already used worldwide to measure their social and environmental impact. The median score for an ordinary business is around 50.9.
