Ethiopia Yirgacheff Huke Premium Washed G1
Out of stock
For the first time here at Bear Lake, we purchased sister lots of the same coffee. One washed and one natural.
This fully washed Yirgacheff Premium G1 is fully hand picked and sorted. The washed processed coffees are depulped within 8 hours after picking and the mucilage-covered parchment is submerged in water for a 36 to 48 hour fermentation, depending on the conditions. After most of the mucilage is consumed, the coffee is fully washed in canals with running water until the water is completely transparent and all of the mucilage is completely removed from the parchment.
After fermenting and washing, this premium coffee is laid out on raised beds under a shade net for 5 to 7 days until the moisture content is between 11 and 12%. The coffee is then moved inside a nearby warehouse for final homogenization and resting until it is ready to be transported to the dry mill.
The coffee is finished at the Huke Washing Station owned and operated by the Yonis Family. The final cup is more delicate that its counterpart (Yirgacheff Huke Premium Natural G1).
Fragrance and aroma of creme brulee and lemon grass. Notes of apple, blueberry, lemon, raspberry, sweet tea and white sugar. Aftertaste of baking spices, vanilla, cinnamon and black tea. Mild lemon-forward acidity with malic and citric acids noted. Creamy mouthfeel and medium bodied. Overall complex. Roasted light to protect its sweetness and balance.

Blind Assessment |
Nuanced, delicate, multi-layered. Sweetly spice-toned, gently herbaceous, richly aromatic. Bergamot, cocoa nib, pink peppercorn, freesia, sandalwood in aroma and cup. Balanced, apple-like (malic) acidity; very full, syrupy mouthfeel. Harmonious, integrated, satiating finish. |
Notes |
Produced by smallholding farmers, from local landrace varieties of Arabica, and processed by the traditional washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying). Bear Lake Coffee Co., a B Corp-certified coffeehouse and roastery located in Barronett, Wisconsin, is committed to sustainability through its Coffee with a Purpose™ initiative, which ensures that farmers receive compensation well above the Fairtrade Premium for their exceptional small-batch coffee. |
Bottom Line |
A great example of an affordable, meticulously processed and roasted washed Ethiopia with telltale notes of bergamot and cocoa nib — familiar yet elevated. |
